The Cyber Security program consists of two courses: Survey of Information Security, and CompTIA Security+ (SY0-601).
Survey of Information Security
This course will help you to understand the world of cyber security for organizations, including topics such as cryptography, security management, compliance and more. It covers how organizations protect assets, guide, evaluate and manage information security programs. This course explains common security compliance requirements, vulnerability management processes, penetration testing and how to detect and respond to security incidents before they occur to minimize damage to your organization.
The CompTIA Security+ will help you prepare for the CompTIA Security+ (exam code SY0-601), but does not include the exam.
By the end of the course, participants will have the essential foundation to design and architect a secure solution to protect a company’s data and assets.
All of our program content is delivered in pre-recorded video courses. This program is a great fit for you if you love to learn online, are self-motivated, and can dedicate 5+ hours a week to the program.
To be eligible for our programs you must be 18 years or older and have completed a high school GED or equivalent. You must also be a resident of Nova Scotia or Newfoundland & Labrador.

Survey of Information Security
In this skill set, we understand how organizations protect assets, guide, evaluate and manage information security programs.
Cryptography is an important part of information security planning. This course will teach you some of the basics of cryptographic algorithms and how to select the appropriate one to encrypt your data.
Participants will have the essential foundation to design and architect a secure solution to protect a company’s data and assets.
In this course, you’ll learn the foundations of effective security management programs, including organizing a program, risk management and organizational resilience.
Learning to detect and respond to security incidents before they occur greatly minimizes damage to your organization.
Prepare for the global certification exam by learning the baseline skills needed to perform core security functions and pursue a career in IT.
In this course you will be introduced to potential indicators of compromise and the various intelligence sources used to identify and combat these threats. Penetration testing tools and techniques will also be introduced.
You will be introduced to the multi-pronged approach of information security, focusing on the architecture and design that supports it.
This chapter will focus on the various ways to secure the company’s systems, network and date using secure protocols, hardware and software.

This course is focused on risk assessment across all facets of an organization. You’ll explore different types of control that can be put in place to limit exposure and several methodologies, frameworks and best practices to develop policy and ensure compliance.
Even before you begin looking for employment, it’s important to assess your skills, attitude, and responsibilities. This online course path will make sure you’re ready to find and keep a job and grow your career.
This online course path will help you develop strong communication, the ability to deal with customers and difficult people, and various other transferable skills in addition to your technical web design and development training.

Although the majority of this program is self-directed, you will also have access to consistent support from the Skills for Hire team throughout the duration of the 12 weeks through our live-demo sessions, program slack channel, career kickstarter series and industry mentorship.
You will have the option of dropping into weekly live demo sessions over Zoom each week with a Skills for Hire program specialist. These sessions are designed to help you better understand the web development skills you are learning through watching one of our program specialists perform hands-on web development live over Zoom. Our live demo sessions will offer a deep dive into a different aspect of the curriculum each week.
The Skills for Hire Slack channel is an online virtual messaging platform that allows you to connect with your peers and the Skills for Hire team. Each week we will post resources, tips, and suggestions for how you can practice your skills and launch your career. You will have access to the Skills for Hire Slack channel for the 12-week duration of the program.
Once you acquire all of your skills for hire, we want you to feel confident and ready to find work! During weeks 3, 5 and 7 of the program, you will have the chance to take part in 1 hour career kickstarter sessions over Zoom with our partners at EnPoint Mentorship. This 3-part series will guide you through lively discussion and hands-on activities that will help you to identify your career goals, grow your online network, polish your resume, and practice your interview skills.
Skills for Hire is pleased to be partnering with the Halifax Partnership’s Connector Program, in order to match students of the Skills for Hire program with qualified ICT & Tech industry mentors across the HRM. Each participating student will have the opportunity to be matched with a connector working in the sector. Once they have had a chance to connect, the connector will then connect you with another member in their professional network in the region.
