about the web design program

April 19 – July 12, 2021

In this fully virtual 12-week program you will learn the fundamentals of HTML5, CSS, JavaScript and front-end web design and development basics. All you need is a reliable internet connection and access to a computer! Working at your own pace and your own schedule, you will become fluent in coding languages to create custom-built websites and web-based applications and build the skills necessary to find work in this exciting field.  You will also have access to our Job Search and Workplace Productivity courses, which will help you to understand the tech sector, and learn the best practices to find and secure work.

All of our program content is delivered in pre-recorded video courses which include hands-on projects for you to build your portfolio. This program is a great fit for you if you love to learn online, are self-motivated, and can dedicate 5+ hours a week to the program.

To be eligible for our programs you must be 18 years or older and have completed a high school GED or equivalent. You must also be a resident of Nova Scotia or Newfoundland & Labrador.

what you'll learn

HTML

Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) is the default file format for web documents. You’ll need to know HTML to add information and different types of content to a website.

CSS

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) tell web browsers how to display fonts, colours, shapes and even animations. This language adds the element of style to the information on your website.

JavaScript

Using JavaScript, the most widely-deployed programming language in the world, you’ll be able to write front-end client side code, back-end code for servers, or even develop games.

Job Search

Even before you begin looking for employment, it’s important to assess your skills, attitude, and responsibilities. This online course path will make sure you’re ready to find and keep a job and grow your career.

Workplace Productivity

This online course path will help you develop strong communication, the ability to deal with customers and difficult people, and various other transferable skills in addition to your technical web design and development training.

additional program benefits

Although the majority of this program is self-directed, you will also have access to consistent support from the Skills for Hire team throughout the duration of the 12 weeks through our live-demo sessions, program slack channel, career kickstarter series and industry mentorship.

industry mentorship

"Thoroughly immersed in the learning experience provided by Skills for Hire. The course work along with job search strategies really helped me narrow down on my area of specialization and at the same time helped expand my horizon of skill sets. To top it all, the live workshops really proved to be the icing on the cake, an apt program at the right time. This program did wonders for me, thank you Skills for Hire!"
