About the Cybersecurity Foundations Program

This is the foundational program within Skills for Hire Atlantic’s Cybersecurity pathway. Over 8 weeks, you will build core skills in cybersecurity concepts, networking fundamentals, security operations, and risk awareness through self-paced learning and live Teaching Assistant-supported sessions. Designed for individuals who are new to the field, including those from non-technical backgrounds, the program also includes career development workshops and industry awareness activities to help you explore pathways into cybersecurity.

What you will learn

Build a strong understanding of core cybersecurity concepts, including threats, vulnerabilities, and how organizations protect systems and data.

Learn the fundamentals of networking, including how data moves across systems and the role of protocols like TCP/IP in securing communications.

Explore how security teams monitor systems, detect threats, and respond to incidents, while gaining an introduction to risk management and best practices.

Get introduced to commonly used cybersecurity tools and workflows in a beginner-friendly environment, helping you understand how security is applied in real-world settings.

Certifications

This certification validates foundational knowledge in cybersecurity, including security principles, network security, access controls, and security operations. The program prepares participants for the concepts covered in this certification. Annual Maintenance Fees (AMF) may be covered for participants who successfully pass the exam, subject to funding.

Program Benefits

This 8-week online program combines self-paced learning with mandatory live sessions, giving you the flexibility to learn on your own schedule while benefiting from support throughout the program. Participants have access to live Teaching Assistant sessions, career development workshops, industry awareness activities, and the program learning platform.

Program Eligibility

You must be 18 years or older and have completed a high school GED or equivalent. You must also be a resident of Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick or Prince Edward Island.
